It is a chemical compound consisting of one part silicon and two parts oxygen. It is found on the surface of the earth and its unique properties make it one of the most useful natural substances.
Its name derives from “quarz” a German word that, in turn, is of Slavic origin. Although other sources attribute it to the Saxon word Querkluftertz, which means cross-veined mineral.
It is a mineral that carries many years of antiquity behind it and has been admired by many generations over time.
Where is it located?
As we have said before, it is found on the surface of the earth. It is an abundant mineral in igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. It is very resistant to mechanical and chemical weathering.
